Bait technologies

Control of the tsetse vector has been one of the principal weapons in the fight against trypanosomiasis, and a variety of methods have been used for many years. Many of the advances in bait techniques have arisen through a better understanding of tsetse behaviour. Here are a number of successful bait methods in Tsetse control and instructions for the construction and implementation.

How to assemble a Zimbabwe-made Epsilon trap

The Epsilon trap was developed in Zimbabwe to catch savanna species of tsetse such as G. pallidipes and G. morsitans. It is designed to be highly selective for tsetse and as a result, unlike the Nzi trap, the Epsilon is relatively inefficient for other species of fly such as stable flies, horseflies and non-biting flies.
